Incorporating a Graphical Element
into the Collections Project
2. Task
• Your task is to incorporate a graphical way of
working into this project.
• This work is to be based on the Artists Michael
Craig Martin, Patrick Caulfield, Julian Opi or
Andy Warhol.
• This week create at least a double page on your
chosen Artist this should include information,
opinions, good quality images of the Artists work
and at least one transcription.
3. Michael Craig
Martin
Martin is particularly
affected by
minimalism and uses
ordinary household
items to create quirky
compositions.
He uses a range of
bold vivid colour
schemes in
unexpected ways.
9. Patrick Caulfield
Caulfield's
paintings are
figurative, often
portraying a few
simple objects in
an interior.
Typically, he
uses flat areas of
simple colour
surrounded by
black outlines.
14. Julian Opi
Drawing from influences as diverse as billboard signs, classical portraiture and sculpture,
to classical Japanese woodblock prints, Opie 'paints' using a variety of media and
technologies which enable him to make three-dimensional explorations of his subjects.
16. Andy Warhol
Andy Warhol first used the
Iconic image of
consumerism in 1960’s
with his painting of a
‘Campbell's soup can’.
The painting used bold
techniques from
commercial design and
used a stencil to help him
achieve bright, flat colours
and clean lines. He
continued to look at
packaging and even made
sculptures based on
everyday items you would
find in a supermarket.
